Photo Gallery: Eve of the Inaugural

WASHINGTON -- On the eve of Barack Obama's presidential swearing-in, ebullient tourists and inaugural-goers were scattered throughout the National Mall. Some of them claimed spots for the night, hunkering down with sleeping bags and cardboard boxes to shield themselves from gusty winds. The nation's monuments -- iconic symbols of the U.S. democracy -- were lit majestically in the early morning hours before the country would inaugurate its first African-American president.
