Approximately 425 families are waiting to see if they will be able to attend Saturday's Family Weekend football game against the University of Delaware Blue Hens, said Elizabeth Gilkeson King, director of Events Management.
"There are a limited number of tickets available for Family Weekend participants and students, and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis," according to the university website.
There was an opportunity for families to request tickets on a wait list and provide comments about attending the game. 1,255 tickets were requested.
King said: "Many of the comments [from families] spoke to their disappointment and frustration at not being able to get tickets. Families with senior students were especially disappointed because they will not have the opportunity to return for Family Weekend next year, which is why we felt it was important to accommodate them first. "
Senior Nick Milley said his parents got off the wait list on Monday and received two tickets. He registered online to get his ticket separately through the student ticketing website.
"[Going to this football game] is important to me because it is the only game my parents will be able to see on this campus, especially in the first year of the stadium's existence," Milley said.
Senior Philip Garrity's parents were also able to get tickets after being on the wait list for two or three weeks.
"The game will be a great family activity," Garrity said. "My dad loves football. We can tailgate and make a day out of it."
More than 250 parents of seniors on the wait list received tickets on Monday and some families of underclassmen received tickets -- more than 300 -- based on when they registered on the wait list, King said.
The Events Management board is already reviewing the plans for Family Weekend 2011 to prevent the same issues from happening again.
"We are confident that the growing pains of a new facility will be resolved," King said.
