Two Richmond students die in separate incidents

Two University of Richmond students died early this summer on separate occasions.

Adam Vazir, who was originally from Chatham, NJ and was a student at Richmond from fall 2012 to summer 2014, died on Saturday, May 2, according to an email from University Communications.

According to his May 5 obituary in the New Jersey Star Ledger, while at Richmond Vazir was pursuing a degree in accounting, was a member of greek life and played on the club rugby team.

Shakira Henry, a rising junior originally from Chester, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 10.

According to a campus-wide email from Craig Kocher, the university chaplain, Henry was majoring in business administration, minoring in women, gender, and sexuality studies and was a member of the WILL* program.

The University of Richmond flag flew at half-staff from May 15 to May 17 in recognition of Henry's passing, according to an email from the Office of the President.

The university plans to work with students who knew Henry to find appropriate ways to honor her life on campus once the academic year starts up again, Kocher wrote.

The emails also encouraged students affected by the losses to reach out to campus resources over the summer, such as CAPS, the chaplaincy and the dean’s office.
