The various feelings from registration day, explained

Registration day, D-day, The Hunger Games: Students call the day of class selection many names, and that day that many students dread is fast approaching.

Senior scholars begin registering for classes on Monday, Oct. 26 and the crazy process continues until freshmen select their classes on Friday, Nov. 6. Even though we all have different registration experiences (or nightmares) there are some common emotions that occur before, during, and after University of Richmond registration.

Pre-registration anxiety involves asking yourself, “What the heck do I want to do with my life?” “Do I seriously have to take a 9 am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday?” and “I really hope I get the easy professors”. But the anxiety does not stop until after you have (hopefully) successfully gotten into all of your classes. Keyword: hopefully.

Panic

The panic usually sets in about 6:55 a.m. for students that are not scholars or athletes and have to register at the crack of dawn. It’s bad enough having to fight for the last spot in a class, but having to do so at 7 a.m. makes it even worse. With shaking hands and a pounding heart, panicking students hope for the best when the clock strikes 7.

After registration there are usually two outcomes. Either a) You were locked out of Bannerweb, got no classes that you needed, and feel like your future is ruined or b) You got all the classes that you wanted and you are VERY excited

A) Disappointment and more panic…

You will probably run to the head of your major’s department and BEG for any overrides you can get.

B) Excitement….

Congratulations, you were one of the lucky students that actually got the schedule that they wanted!

Regardless of how registration goes, everything usually ends up working out. So good luck and happy hunger games -- I mean registration -- to everyone!
