Teach-in sessions scheduled to recognize recent terrorist attacks

The School of Arts and Sciences has organized two teach-in sessions aimed at helping "the university community make sense of and cope with these events and their consequences," reads an event description.

Both teach-in sessions will be from 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Brown-Alley Room in Weinstein Hall.

Thursday's panelists include:

Sheila Carapico (Professor of Political Science and International Studies)
Peter Smallwood (Associate Professor of Biology)
Shahan Mufti (Assistant Professor of Journalism)
Spencer Bakich (Visiting Lecturer of Political Science)
Chloe Lubin-Kirchner (student, International Studies and Chinese Studies, French native)

Friday's panelists include:

Martha Merritt (Dean of International Education)
Sara Pappas (Associate Professor of French)
Yucel Yanikdag (Associate Professor of History)
Stephen Long (Associate Professor of Political Science)
Clement Verde (exchange student from Science Po)
Marcin Jerzewski (international student from Poland)

10:20 a.m. Monday

There will be a candlelight vigil to acknowledge the tragedies in Paris at 6:00 p.m. tonight on the Forum, according to an email from the Richmond College Deans Office

The vigil will include silence, candlelight, music and brief remarks from Craig Kocher, university chaplain.

The gathering will last approximately fifteen minutes and there will be opportunities for conversation afterwards.

Additionally, the School of Arts and Sciences will organize two teach-in sessions on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, both from 12-1 p.m. at a location to be determined, according to an email from Nancy Bagranoff, dean of the Robins School of Business.

"Several faculty, staff, and students with expertise and personal experience will share their brief remarks to lead off an informal dialogue among all that are interested in participating," Bagranoff's email reads.

All Richmond students in France have been reported safe after the attacks.
