Plea hearing set for former Richmond football player facing marijuana distribution charges

Jeremiah Hamlin, a former University of Richmond football player, is scheduled to have a plea hearing for his two felony marijuana distribution charges on May 6, after a grand jury returned a True Bill on both charges in Richmond City Criminal Circuit Court Monday.

Hamlin, who is no longer enrolled at Richmond, was arrested in October after picking up three pounds of marijuana at a local post office. He posted a $15,000 bond.

Hamlin faces a Class 5 felony marijuana distribution charge and a Class 6 felony distribution of drugs near a school charge. A Richmond District Court judge certified the two charges in February when Hamlin waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Hamlin, who was a third-string running back behind Jacobi Green and Seth Fisher, gained 118 yards on 31 carries for the Spiders in 2015. He was expected to be Richmond’s top running back in the 2016 season.
