Students receive timely warning email regarding sexual assault

The University of Richmond Police Department informed students and staff of a reported sexual assault that occurred early Thursday morning, March 24, according to a timely warning email.

The reported assault was by a known person in an on-campus residential housing facility located off of UR Drive, according to the email. This is the third sexual assault related timely warning email of the semester and the first since students and staff returned from spring break.

No further information about the assault is available at this time.

According to studies, one in every five women is sexually assaulted in college. Last year, The Collegian conducted a campus-wide sexual assault survey, in which 42 percent of females responded. Of the 42 percent who responded, almost half said they had experienced some sort of unwanted sexual behaviors while studying at Richmond.

In March 2015, almost a year ago to date, the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights came to campus to investigate the university for its handling of Title IX violations. Richmond is one of over 100 schools facing federal investigation.
