Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article stated that the employee fell off the building's roof. At the time of original publication, that was not yet determined.
An employee of a roofing subcontractor fell multiple stories while working at Lora Robins Court Wednesday morning and was transported to VCU Medical Center.
Construction at the site was halted after the fall, which occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m., Cynthia Price, director of media and public relations, said in an email.
Health and safety officials have been notified and university staff will provide them support and assistance, Price said.
According to an ABC 8News article, university officials said the employee – a Trent Construction contractor – fell from four stories high while doing renovation work on Lora Robins. It is unclear whether he fell off the crane or the building.
The worker was unresponsive after falling, a university employee told The Collegian.
He was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, 8News reported.
"We are going to investigate what happened,” Price told 8News. “Then once we learn that we can re-assess."
When reached today by The Collegian, The Trent Corporation and University Facilities were not available for comment.
This is a developing story. Check back at thecollegianur.com for more updates.
