As the University of Richmond transitioned from the Enhanced Red Stage to the Red Stage of its COVID-19 Physical Distancing Framework, administration announced new attendance policies for spring football, men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse competitions.
The initial attendance policy release, posted on Feb. 22, included specific attendance restrictions for all spring sports. However, the University's most recent release on March 2 allows for increased fan and general public attendance only to football and lacrosse games, in accordance Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's Feb. 24 executive order. According to Athletics, a limited number of tickets will be available for the general public in addition to student fans.
Northam's order caps outdoor attendance at 1,000 fans in the Robins Stadium to allow for physical distancing.
The most recent attendance policy release states that students will be able to attend games with limited seating by claiming a ticket through a link sent in an email from Spider Athletics. Those who reserve tickets will receive a mobile ticket that grants them access to the respective game. Fans will enter through specific gates and are required to maintain a physical distance of six feet away from others at all times, including while seated.
For the men's lacrosse game versus No. 1 Duke University that took place on on March 7, Spider fans purchased tickets online, according to a Spider Athletics announcement on March 2. The same link can be used to reserve free tickets for the remainder of spring games for various sports as well, according to Ticket Office information.
In an email sent March 4, associate director of athletic relations for men's basketball Jason Vida wrote that, per Virginia guidelines regarding indoor events, attendance would be limited to 250 people at the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship. This policy will be in place for the women’s basketball tournament, which starts on March 11, Vida wrote.
There are no changes in attendance capacity for field hockey, baseball, soccer or cross country games, which only allows student-athlete and coach guests. Each student-athlete receives two guest tickets, according to the Feb. 11 spectator policy.
