The University of Richmond women’s golf team came out of the gate like a rocket on Sept. 8 and 9 at the Kingsmill Resort, winning the Tribe Invitational by a program-best 31-shots.

What could possibly be better than starting the fall season with a historic win at a tournament hosted by your rival?

On fire from the very beginning, the Spiders carded a 5-over-par team score in Round One that blew everyone else away. The closest team behind UR was Marshall University, which trailed by 10 strokes.

The Kingsmill Resort, a 5,923 yard course, offers wooded scenery with several holes having features. Hole 18, arguably the toughest hole to tackle, tripped up golfers throughout the round, including the three Spiders who tallied bogeys.

Despite a few double bogeys sprinkled across the scorecard, UR cleared the individual board as well, holding the top three places after the round, senior Hannah Lydic leading with a 1-under-par. The only player in the field with a score under par, Lydic played a clean round with four birdies to counter the three bogeys she tallied.

Unfortunately, Lydic was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard in Round two, leaving Richmond with another 5-over-par round. With Lydic out, junior Maya Beasley led Richmond with a 2-under-par 70 with sophomore Katie Magner just one stroke behind her.

The Spiders went into the final round with a steady 18-stroke lead. Maintaining rhythm, Richmond continued on its hot streak with a 4-over-par 292 that kept Richmond in the top spot. First-year Addie Doroh led with an even-par, but Beasley finished the day on the top of the leaderboard.

Beasley, a consistent top performer for UR, once again showed her talents, picking up her first individual title with a 1-over-par through 54 holes. The title puts her on the list as the 11th Spider to record an individual win.

"It's honestly so rewarding," Beasley said. "I have had multiple top fives so it feels good to finally get one. I think the key was just to stay super patient and confident."

Following her, three other Spiders fought their way to the top five, including Doroh, who made her collegiate debut at the tournament with a 9-over-par finish.

This promising start comes following Richmond tying off the 2024-25 season with several honors.

"It's very exciting. It feels like we are coming back right where we left off from [the A-10 Championship] and [NCAA] Regionals," said Head Coach Calle Barlow, who led UR to the A-10 title and its best finish ever in NCAA Regionals play last season. "This group is very talented and has focused this summer on golf and it is showing right away."
