SAN ANTONIO — The University of Kansas connected on nearly half of its three-pointers as it got by the University of Richmond, 77-57, Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio in the Sweet 16 of the 2011 NCAA tournament. The loss ends the careers of Richmond's five seniors. The three four-year seniors in that group were responsible for 91 wins and included one of the school's best players in Kevin Anderson. Richmond reached the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history after defeating No. 5 Vanderbilt University and No. 13 Morehead State University the previous weekend at Pepsi Center in Denver.

Richmond Spider fans in Richmond, New York City and across the country gathered together Saturday to watch No. 12 Richmond defeat No. 13 Morehead State and advance to the fourth round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1988.
DENVER — After receiving a 12 seed despite winning the Atlantic 10 Conference title and automatic berth, there were questions about whether the Spiders would have made the tournament had they lost the A-10 title game. Richmond, which admittedly felt slighted by the low seeding, played like it as it defeated No. 5 Vanderbilt University in the second round and then No. 13 Morehead State University, 65-48, to get to San Antonio.
DENVER — The selection committee may not have wanted them in the tournament, but the University of Richmond Spiders are headed to the Sweet 16.
DENVER — This was not supposed to be Richmond's match-up in the third round, but then again, Richmond wasn't supposed to make it this far either. Since both teams dispatched of their higher-seeded foe in the second round here in Denver, Colo., on Thursday, they will meet on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. EST to advance to the Sweet 16.
DENVER — For the first three years at Richmond, it was not just senior Kevin Anderson's size that made him at times invisible on the court.
DENVER — The seedings of the University of Richmond and Vanderbilt University say that Richmond's 69-66 victory was an upset. But don't try telling that to Richmond coach Chris Mooney.

But Harper, who rarely lets his emotion show on the court, instead went for more of a light, chest tap with Geriot.
Richmond has two first-team all-conference selections for the third time in school history. Seniors Kevin Anderson and Justin Harper were named to the first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference team, while fellow senior Kevin Smith was named to the A-10 all-defensive team.
Kevin Anderson's debut in the Robins Center four years ago was impressive for a freshman as he scored four points, had four assists and four rebounds. But compared to his finale in the Robins Center Saturday afternoon, it was nothing special.
Kevin Anderson scored 20 points in Saturday's win against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, surpassing the 2,000-point mark and making him the third all-time scorer in University of Richmond basketball history.
