Pi Beta Phi is hosting Ballin' for Books on Friday in the Weinstein Center to support its philanthropy, First Book, and to collect donations for Churchill Activities and Tutoring (CHAT), according to Meredith Schlussel, the sorority's vice president of philanthropy. The basketball tournament will run from 6-9 p.m.

A cacophony greeted visitors the second they entered the door, as raucous yells and laughter filled the air. Children were running, spinning around and air-dribbling basketballs. And then suddenly, the room quieted as the evening's activities began with a Bible passage. The children listened attentively, and then were asked to think about how the reading applied to their lives.

I have expressed disdain in the past for the lack of sports support from the student body and have had trouble understanding the lack of interest. Being at Duke Saturday night, I was excited to see hundreds of red-shirted students standing and cheering for the team and actually joining some of our vocal alumni leading cheers and encouraging others. It was Chattanooga all over again.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Hundreds of University of Richmond fans lined the entrance to Finley Stadium to welcome the Spiders during the final Spider Walk Friday night. Richmond's captains -- seniors John Crone, Will Healy, Sherman Logan and Lawrence Sidbury Jr. -- strode hand-in-hand onto the field. Army paratroopers glided onto the field, an 11-year-old Chattanooga native sang the National Anthem, and soon thereafter Richmond made a dominating performance during the national championship game.

NEW YORK -- Friday night I stood beside more than 30 Richmond alumni to watch our football team make school history. From 800 miles away, we packed into a pub named The Australian and screamed with the crowds in Chattanooga, Tenn., and every other fan watching around the nation. Although I felt like a teenybopper wearing my Richmond '11 T-shirt, I didn't care because the place was packed and our Spiders rocked the house.
