Senior Darien Brothers led the Spiders in scoring to a victory against Charlotte and tied a school record of eight three-pointers on Saturday evening.

The Atlantic 10, the University of Richmond's athletic conference for all sports except football, has added Virginia Commonwealth University and Butler University for the 2012-13 seasons. With these additions, the A-10 has 16 teams, though certain schools do not participate in certain sports.
The Atlantic 10 Conference, which began conference games Wednesday night, looks as if it will have several strong teams competing for the title, but the University of Richmond may not be one of them.
The University of Richmond women's basketball team lost 73-62 Wednesday afternoon at the Robins Center against Atlantic 10 Conference foe, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Two years ago, the University of Richmond women's basketball team was 15 minutes away from winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament and winning the automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Instead, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte rallied from an eight-point deficit to win that game and send the Spiders to the National Invitational Tournament.
The last time the University of Richmond men's basketball team hosted the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, on Jan. 20, 2010, the 49ers won 71-59. The Spiders won their Atlantic-10 conference opener with the same score on Wednesday night in front of 4,231 spectators.
University of Richmond senior David Gonzalvez hit a 3-pointer to give Richmond a 45-41 lead and bring the crowd of 4,042 at the Robins Center to their feet. But that basket, which came with 12 minutes and 47 seconds left during Richmond's game against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, would be the last of the good feelings for the home team.
