SAN ANTONIO — The University of Kansas connected on nearly half of its three-pointers as it got by the University of Richmond, 77-57, Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio in the Sweet 16 of the 2011 NCAA tournament. The loss ends the careers of Richmond's five seniors. The three four-year seniors in that group were responsible for 91 wins and included one of the school's best players in Kevin Anderson. Richmond reached the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history after defeating No. 5 Vanderbilt University and No. 13 Morehead State University the previous weekend at Pepsi Center in Denver.

Your car would not run very well on unclean fuel nor would it be able to get you where you need to go if the tank is on "E." I liken this scenario to the human body. It must be replenished with proper nourishment after it has been broken down due to physical activity. So why would you want to knowingly sabotage all of your well-intentioned efforts in the gym by not fueling up afterward? Perhaps he or she is uninformed or deliberately neglecting exercise regimes. I posit that it seems relatively easier to throw some dumbbells around in the gym but it takes a more concerted effort when paying attention to the proper fuel consumption and when to execute your meals. Those who think they can diet without exercising and those who think they can eat whatever they want because they exercise, are sadly misguided.

DENVER — After receiving a 12 seed despite winning the Atlantic 10 Conference title and automatic berth, there were questions about whether the Spiders would have made the tournament had they lost the A-10 title game. Richmond, which admittedly felt slighted by the low seeding, played like it as it defeated No. 5 Vanderbilt University in the second round and then No. 13 Morehead State University, 65-48, to get to San Antonio.
DENVER — The No. 12 seed University of Richmond upset No. 5 Vanderbilt, 69-66, Thursday afternoon at Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. Senior Kevin Anderson scored nine straight points as Richmond went on a 9-0 run to turn a three-point deficit into Richmond's first lead of the game at 51-48 with 12:04 left to play in the game. "We don't want to be one-and-done," Anderson said. "We're excited for this win. We want to keep looking forward into this tournament, not just being satisfied with this win. ... We won one game, but didn't win the tournament. That's our ultimate goal."
