HARRISONBURG, Va. — As James Madison University coach Mickey Matthews entered his post-game press conference after his team's 31-7 victory over the University of Richmond, his visor on his head was so low that it nearly covered his eyes and made him look like a villain. After the Spiders put up just 118 yards of offense, there was no other way the Spider offense could look at him.

The University of Richmond football team remained undefeated Saturday night, defeating Virginia Military Institution, 34-19, in front of a sellout crowd at Robins Stadium. The Spiders went into halftime with a 27-0 lead, but the Keydets got back into the game with 16 fourth-quarter points.

Richmond turned the ball over five times during the first half, but held Wagner to just three points off of those turnovers to pick up the 21-6 victory Saturday night at Robins Stadium. This was the first night game in the history of Robins Stadium, which opened last year. Richmond quarterback set career highs with 236 yards and two touchdowns.

Richmond picked up a 23-21 upset win over Duke University Saturday night at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, N.C. Interim coach Wayne Lineburg picked up his first career win after taking over the position just 10 days before the start of the season. Richmond has now won the past three times it has traveled to Wallace Wade Stadium.

Richmond's coach was appointed to that position just 10 days before the start of the seaon, 26 freshmen and sophomores had their names listed on the two-deep pre-game depth chart and Richmond's starting quarterback was coming back from a blown-out knee.

Hurricane Irene, a Category 1 storm, hit the University of Richmond Saturday afternoon just four days after a magnitude-5.8 earthquake. The storm forced the school to shut down at 2 p.m. and brought down trees and power lines. The school announced Sunday that it would have a normal schedule on Monday.
