Seeing my parents on campus for the last parent's weekend of my college career was bittersweet.
Troy Davis, who was convicted of killing a police officer in Savannah, Ga., 22 years ago, was executed on Sept. 21. Troy's conviction was not based on any physical evidence - no murder weapon was found -- according to an article from The Guardian.
At first, when I read Jon Henry's "Letter to Men," I thought nothing of the apparent transition of themes from that letter to Rhatican's letter. I began to wonder why I would automatically assume that Henry's view of being gay had anything to do with Rhatican's view of women and dress.
I'm starting to wonder if Hollywood film reviewers are being paid to say that movies this year are decent when they're actually so boring it's almost criminal that someone funded the making of them. Or maybe these critics are seeing director's cut versions of the films, since most reviewers watch films together in separate theaters from the general public. Either way, "Moneyball" is god-awfully boring and anyone who says differently is probably a fan of Major League Baseball.
The movie "Drive" follows a character who is based on a superman-type persona, barely speaks and is also as awkward as Ryan Gosling's character in "Lars and the Real Girl." Sure, he's a stoic superhero with a secret identity but he's also awkward, makes strange decisions and gets involved with really obvious crime kingpins. And instead of flying faster than a speeding bullet and leaping tall buildings, his superpowers include driving getaway cars and invisibility.
If you sat through President Obama's speech last Friday and did not get at least a hint of chills and some extra hope to put in your pocket for later, you might want to consider calling nurse Dial-A-Nurse.
Words are dangerous, man. I think people have gotten into more trouble for things they've said than things they've done.
During my study abroad excursion in China (Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong) this past summer, I noticed many things that distinguished the people and society of Beijing.
It is certainly an odd situation to be in when your pen can destroy worlds, and it is a situation that our president finds himself in at this very moment. Sure, President Obama may be more concerned with the state of this economy and, of course, his re-election, but what sits on his desk right now carries considerable weight.
TRIGGER WARNING: This article discusses sexual assault, rape and rape culture.
It was announced earlier today that Syracuse and Pitt have accepted invitations to join the ACC, leaving the Big East and inching the NCAA world toward the Super-Conference era. All of this realignment in college got me thinking that some professional sports leagues may be in need of realignment. Are each of the four major American sports the best that they can be right now? Let's find out.

University of Richmond students are successful in many ways: We're motivated, hard working, involved, dedicated and fun loving.
Do not touch your face while you read this. Seriously. You're doing it now, aren't you? Well, congratulations. You're going to die of pig-bat flu and then coroners are going to find green sludge in your brain during your autopsy and everyone you have ever stared at is going to die too. Are you proud of yourself?
Being young - only in fourth grade - it was hard for me to understand the extent of the catastrophe that had occurred. Looking back now, 9/11 has forever changed my life. Because I lived just 20 minutes or so outside the city, my family knew many people who worked downtown and, more importantly, in the towers.
Is it better to have led and lost or to have never led at all? That is the question that I find myself trying in vein to answer this week. It is a nearly impossible task to discriminate between the two. After all is said and done, a loss is a loss. But you can't ignore the way you lose. Let me explain.
It sometimes feels like once you've been to one Mexican restaurant, you've been to them all. But that's not how I feel about Plaza Azteca on Broad Street. With a fun atmosphere, good drinks and huge portions, Plaza Azteca falls just a notch above other Mexican restaurants, including everyone's freshman year favorite, Mexico's.
Dear fellow students,
There's a reason economists from all angles are encouraging Congress to adopt President Obama's jobs proposal announced Thursday and outlined on our campus Friday: its sound economic policy. Most aspects of his $450 billion proposal will give a big boost to our economy next year, perhaps raising 2012's GDP growth by as much as 2 percent while lowering unemployment by 1 percent.
I want to begin this article by stating that the University of Richmond's College Republicans were honored to have President Obama choose to speak at Richmond, or as one of my professors said it, "Eat your hearts out UVA, Virginia Tech and William & Mary."
