Having been an Orientation Leader for the past two years, senior Hoor Ul Ain is a recognizable face on campus, known for her effort in bringing the international community together.
“It’s funny when people do not accept identities when identities themselves are a social construct,” El Kurd said about people who do not recognize Palestine.
“I really appreciated having international students and also having a couple domestic students intermingling with each other and having great conversations,” Hussein said.
“We see the snacks on the table from back home and it really reminds us of home and the amazing food we have there,” she said.
The event had over 25 attendees, including a few prospective students from the international community, who were able to meet other members of the international community here at UR.
Junior Angelina Makretsova is originally from Belarus and had the opportunity to do two study abroad programs, one associated with UR and another independent study abroad program.
Colors flew all across Westhampton Green as the South Asian Student Alliance held its annual Holi event on Sunday, March 19.
“Those are my people and my roots, and it was just such a great feeling to realize that I can actually do this,” Bingül said. “I can use the skills that I gained from here to apply and help my people back [home].”
Sbrocca is majoring in biology with neuroscience and education minors. When she first came to UR, she expressed how surprised she was, since her classes back home were quite different.
“Many jobs had requirements of being a US citizen so as an international student, I was not even considered for the position.”
“I was talking to a couple of my Turkish friends in the university and we talked about how we wanted to do something about it,” Yanar said.
Senior Phuong Anh Dinh, the president of the VSA, said her drive for starting this organization came from wanting to feel more at home on the UR campus.
