Richmond students are not classy

It's true that the recent frat e-mail was disgustingly prejudiced. But more to the point, the images that were so bluntly described are not that far from the true social life of a typical Richmond student. Here's the REAL problem: The university cannot figure out how to clean up after its students.

The juice is loose

A few days ago I discovered a juicy new addition to this campus, and judging by the most popular searches this week (Richmond currently holds the top two spots), it seems that a sizable chunk of the rest of our campus knows exactly what I'm talking about. You might remember the article that ran in The Collegian last year about a fast-growing Web site sweeping the nation's universities -- JuicyCampus.com.

Rebuilding our campus

By Jill Eisenberg Westhampton College '09 Our university's administration has acted swiftly and proactively to condemn the horrifying sexism and racism in the Kappa Sig e-mail, but administrators can lecture us until they are blue in the face.

Free speech on campus

By Jarrett Dieterle Richmond College '10 In the wake of the derogatory e-mail by a U of R fraternity member, a thorough discourse has arisen within the hallways, classrooms and organized forums here on campus.

WGSS should lose the "W"

By Nathan Bullock Richmond College '10 The recent uproar and controversy over the inappropriate e-mails degrading women on campus has led to a variety of responses and suggested solutions, most of which miss the point no matter how well intended.

Stand up, don't stand by

Changing peer culture on sexual respect at the University of Richmond, or on any college campus, is not easy, but it absolutely needs to be done.

Letter: Homecoming Weekend

By Carla DeLuca Westhampton College '93 Vice President, Communications for the University of Richmond Alumni Association This weekend many of you will experience the phenomenon that is Homecoming for the first time: Caravans of alumni will meander down Snake Hill, many with (future Spider) offspring in tow. We will begin every conversation with, "When I was a student ..." We will deplete the bookstore's supply of sweatshirts, marvel at the new buildings and take up every parking space we can find. And that's not even the fun part. We are a lot like you, just a bit older.

International friendships without leaving UR

Over 20 years ago my family moved to Africa for almost a month. While they were there (before I was born) my dad walked to the local health clinic with a guy from Australia every morning and every morning he looked my dad in the eye and exclaimed with a thick accent, "America!
