Analysis: Williams is not only the main reason Richmond is ahead in this game, but I'd go as far as to say the Spiders would be down big if he wasn't playing tonight.

Spiders come back twice, defeat Tribe, 86-78, in double OT

In the 198th meeting between the Richmond and William & Mary men's basketball programs, 40 minutes wasn't long enough to determine a winner, and neither was 45. The Spiders were able to come out on top, 86-78, over their in-state rivals in double overtime, thanks to last-minute comebacks at the end of regulation and the first overtime period. "It's hard to ask much more of a group of kids than we gave today," Tribe coach Tony Shaver said.


Cross Country

Cross country team underperforms but succeeds individually

The men's and women's cross country season ended with the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlotte, N.C., where the women's team finished 13th out of 37 teams, and the men's team finished in 21st place out of 34 teams. The women's team didn't do as well as it wanted to in the regional meet, junior Jillian Prentice said.

Women's basketball played in Cancun Challenge

The women's basketball team traveled to Mexico to compete in the Cancun Challenge during Thanksgiving break, winning two of three games and ending its three-game losing streak. "It was fun to be in a different country, but at the same time, it was definitely a business trip," said fifth-year senior guard Samantha Bilney.

Final Score: University of Richmond- 21, College of William & Mary- 14 What Happened: For the second straight game, Richmond's defense bailed out a mistake by the Spiders' young quarterback, as the unit held strong late in the fourth quarter with William & Mary in the red-zone threatening to tie the game.

Spiders top century mark in blowout win, 101-58, over Seahawks

The University of Richmond men's basketball team took an early lead and never looked back, defeating University of North Carolina-Wilmington 101-58 in its second game of the season Tuesday. "I thought our pressure and intensity dictated tonight's game in our favor," coach Chris Mooney said. After a back-and-forth start with a brief tie, Richmond gained momentum.


Swimming & Diving

Swimming and diving focuses on "the process"

The University of Richmond's swimming and diving team members focus on "The Process," which enables success on the daily level. "The Process" is a phrase that head swimming coach Matt Barany uses with his team that the focus and energy of the swimmers to each day, instead of strictly focusing on the end of the season, Barany said. "In college athletics, people are obsessed with the end result, and a lot of teams don't do a good job in the middle," Barany said.


Club Sports

Richmond adopts sport club classification system

Members of the Sport Club Council for the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness adopted a classification system last year to provide financial resources more equitably to clubs at various levels of competition, participation and financial need. The number of sport clubs at the university has increased from 15 to about 34 during the last four years, said Seth Thomas, assistant director for sports.
