Richmond's run ended by Kansas in Sweet 16, 77-57

SAN ANTONIO ?The faces of the University of Richmond players said it all as they walked off the court: dazed and confused as they were beaten by an unquestionably more talented team Friday night in the Sweet 16 here at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Coming into this game, much of Richmond's focus was on Kansas' Morris twins and their presence down low.

Unity fuels the play of tennis teams

The Richmond men's and women's tennis players head into the next part of their seasons, and team dynamics are at a high point. Mark Wesselink, who has been the women's coach for 20 years, said that so far, the team's strength had been the closeness between the players. "They're getting along very well and it shows on and off the court," Wesselink said. Ben Johnson, who started coaching the men this year, said unity was also a strength. "They do a great job of supporting each other," he said. The women's season began with a tough start, as it usually does, Wesselink said.

Stellar sports memories relived

It's the fourth quarter for my fellow Collegian seniors and me. I'm sure Papa Spear and the rest of the journalism department had a collective cringe with my lede, which began with probably the most cliche saying in sports, but it's true.

Richmond defeats Morehead St. to advance to Sweet 16

DENVER ? The selection committee may not have wanted them in the tournament, but the University of Richmond Spiders are headed to the Sweet 16. After receiving a 12 seed despite winning the Atlantic 10 Conference title and automatic berth, there were questions about whether the Spiders would have made the tournament had it lost the A-10 title game.

Anderson grows into role of team leader for Richmond

DENVER ? For the first three years at Richmond, it was not just senior Kevin Anderson's size that made him at times invisible on the court. Once a player who led by quiet example, he has this year become the team's vocal front-man after the graduation of David Gonzalvez and Ryan Butler ? a transition that will prove important as the Spiders prepare for Saturday's third-round match-up against No.

Richmond looks to move on from 'Giant Killers' nickname
