Richmond's skid reaches 7 in loss to Delaware, 24-10

NEWARK, Del., ? Playing a team whose helmets mimic those of football powerhouse University of Michigan, Richmond made its opponent, University of Delaware, look like the Wolverines. The Blue Hens did most of their damage in the first half on the ground with sophomore running back Pierce against an injury-depleted Spiders' defense.

Spiders' season over, fall to 3rd-ranked Syracuse, 2-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- It was a tale of two halves for University of Richmond's field hockey team on Saturday in College Park, Md. The Spiders outshot Syracuse University, 6-3, in the first half, but failed to capitalize on the opportunities, going into halftime tied, 0-0. In the second half, the number three team in the nation made them pay, scoring two goals, while owning a 9-3 shooting advantage, to win the first round of the NCAA tournament, 2-0, ending Richmond's season. "Field hockey is a sport of momentum," Richmond coach Gina Lucido said.

Spiders rally in season opener, defeat American, 66-56

After trailing for most of the first 28 minutes of the game, the Spiders looked to its two young point guards for a spark. Sophomore Cedrick Lindsay and freshman Kendall Anthony responded, leading the University of Richmond on a 9-0 run that put the Spiders ahead of American University, 47-39. On Veteran's Day, the American Eagles were unable to regain the lead the rest of the game, and Richmond escaped an opening-night scare, 66-56. "It wasn't the smoothest game we've ever played," Richmond coach Chris Mooney said.

Former Richmond football coach sentenced to jail

Former University of Richmond football coach Latrell Scott was sentenced to 10 days in jail Thursday morning by a Henrico County judge. Scott, who was arrested in August for his second DUI in a 5-10 year span, will serve the time on weekends, starting at 8 p.m.

Richmond in Quidditch World Cup

If you see a guy sprinting across campus wearing tight gold gym shorts in the afternoon, don't be alarmed, it's quidditch. Senior Jessie Kelley founded Richmond's quidditch team in 2009 when she learned that other schools had started playing and competing in the magical game.

Richmond men's basketball: Last season in the rearview mirror

At a press conference on Wednesday, Richmond men's basketball coach Chris Mooney decided to have fun answering a question on whether his team had moved on from last season's success. "We were joking at lunch today, we'd just like to hang on for a little bit longer and enjoy it," Mooney said, eliciting laughter in the room.

Spiders win NCAA play-in game, defeat Cal, 2-0

The University of Richmond field hockey team is headed to its first NCAA tournament since 2009 thanks to its victory over University of California at Berkeley, 2-0, on Tuesday in Berkeley, Calif. Richmond senior forward Katelin Peterson, an Escondido, Calif., native, scored both goals for the Spiders.

Women's field hockey wins seventh A-10 Championship

The University of Richmond field hockey team won the 2011 Atlantic 10 Conference championship today with a 1-0 defeat of Temple University in Philadelphia. This year is the seventh time the team has won the A-10 field hockey championship. Senior defender Emily Straniero scored the game's only goal as Richmond outshot Temple, 18-2.

Spiders upset attempt falls short, lose to ODU, 42-28

NORFOLK, Va. -- After coming back to tie the game at 28 early in the fourth quarter, University of Richmond was unable to score any more points, falling to Old Dominion University, 42-28, the Spiders' sixth straight defeat. Richmond trailed through most of the game, going down 8-0 two minutes into the game on a 14-yard pass from ODU quarterback Taylor Heinicke to receiver Larry Pinkard, but tied the game three minutes into the fourth quarter when redshirt freshman receiver Stephen Barnette caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Corp. On the touchdown grab, Barnette went high into the air and pulled the ball down with one hand with a defender on top of him.

They let the clock run out, and the final score is: ODU 42, UR 28. 4th Quarter, 0:35- ODU calls a timeout, facing a 4th and 1 from the UR 12. 4th Quarter, 1:55- The ODU crowd is on its feet as backup quarterback Thomas DeMarco enters the game.

At 8 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 5th at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the #1 Louisiana State University Tigers are facing the #2 University of Alabama Crimson Tide. Games like this are what make people realize that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
