Ring Dance theme 'Dancing in the Moonlight'

The Westhampton College Government Association met Wednesday evening in the North Court Reception Room and discussed meal plan changes and coming events, including the Ring Dance theme.

Dee Hardy, director of Dining and Auxiliary Services, spoke about the meal plan changes for this academic year. She addressed the meal plan transferability issue at Tyler's Grill and the two-swipes-per-meal-period policy. Many of the women said students had complained about the changes. Several also said they had personal problems with the meal plan. Hardy encouraged the Westhampton senators to stand behind the new policies in an effort to bring the student body behind them.

Class of 2010 President Caroline Faughnan announced that the committee had decided the theme of this year's Ring Dance would be "Dancin' in the Moonlight" by King Harvest. The Web site will be updated this week with information regarding planning progress.

Faughnan also said that her cabinet members were inducted to WCGA on Tuesday night. Ali Amaral, president of the class of 2011, spoke about the Westhampton Big/Little social's success and the coming election. She said that she and her new cabinet had met and discussed possible fundraisers for the class.

Senate executives gave reports to the council on the various activities in the past week. Carter Quinley spoke on behalf of the Alumnae Affairs Committee. She discussed WCGA alumnae events during Homecoming weekend, including a possible party for alumnae and current WCGA members.

The Student Affairs Committee is working on Homecoming activities by planning possible transportation to the football stadium as well as tailgating dinners on campus.

Board of Elections Chair Patty Drennan spoke about the coming elections for the classes of 2010 and 2012. The Senate held a cookie social after the meeting to gather with senatorial candidates. They will talk with the freshmen about election guidelines, including those related to posters and spending limits, which the senate discussed and will review next week.
