Ya Boy feat. Dr. Hollywood -- "We Run L.A."

Q: How long have you been a personal trainer?

A: I received my certification by the American College of Sports Medicine in July 2008 and have been loving it ever since.

Q: What first got you interested in becoming a personal trainer?

A: I thought it would be a great way to help people while doing something I love. I also figured it would be a great way to meet some lonely housewives. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case.

Q: Where do you train in Richmond?

A: I work for a 24/7 gym called Snap Fitness. They have several locations around the Richmond area, but I primarily work at either their Midlothian, Mechanicsville or Short Pump locations.

Q: What genre of music do you listen to most when you are working out?

A: Mostly hip-hop or anything you could see yourself listening to in a club. I like to pretend the gym is a club sometimes.

Q: Is there a particular artist/song that pumps you up when you're working out?

A: I like anything by Lil' Wayne, The Game, Fabolous, Young Jeezy, etc. Basically anything with a good beat that can keep my attention for more than a minute.

Q: Does the type of music you listen to differ depending on whether you are lifting or doing a cardio workout?

A: I'm not a fan of cardio, so the only way to really motivate myself is with some rock: Jimmy Eat World, Eve 6, Papa Roach and the occasional Slipknot.

Q: What is typically on your playlist when you go to the gym?

A: I like to set an iPod playlist that holds all my recently added songs. Usually, I just listen to the newest stuff in the gym to keep it interesting.

Q: Do your clients ever ask you for music suggestions?

A. No, not really. I try not to force my odd music preferences on clients.
