Before departing for Terre Haute, Ind., to compete in its first NCAA Cross Country Championships, the men's cross country team set a goal of finishing among the top 25 teams in the nation. Led by senior Matt Llano, the team was able to accomplish its goal.
The team ended its season with a 24th place finish, while senior Amy Van Alstine, competing for the women's cross country team, finished 67th (21:06).
Llano finished 44th (30:35) in the men's race, barely missing All-American honors. He was followed by senior Andrew Benford in 75th place (30:54), senior Tim Quinn in 116th place (31:19), senior Jon Wilson in 204th place (32:12), sophomore Chris York in 219th place (32:34), junior Levi Grandt in 225th place (32:52) in 225th place and sophomore Jason Skipper in 246th place (36:45) in 246th place.
Both teams has previously swept the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships and the men's team received an at-large bid for the national championships following a fourth-place finish in the Southeast Regional Championship last Saturday.
