Live Football Blog: Richmond at Gardner-Webb

4th Quarter- Jordi's kick is just short and the Spiders fall 12-10. I'll get a Rapid Recap up as soon as I can. Thanks for reading.

4th Quarter 0:03- Strauss hits Barnette again and he gets out at the 25. Jordi comes in to attempt a 43 yard kick.

4th Quarter 0:09- Strauss finds Barnette again and he's brought down at GWU's 45.

4th Quarter 0:18- Strauss finds Barnette at the 42 and he gets out of bounds.

4th Quarter 0:25- Day hits the field goal to put the Bulldogs up 12-10. The Spiders are out of timeout.

4th Quarter 0:29- Gardner Webb picks up 9 on a 3rd and 10. Jordan Day, a former soccer player at GWU, is kicking in his first career game.

4th Quarter 0:51- GWU gets into the field goal range with a big reception. The ball is on the 22.

4th Quarter 1:05 - Big sack by Richmond on the 1st down play. Gardner Webb picks up 6 on 2nd down and sets up a 3rd and 9.

4th Quarter 1:57- Well I just jinxed the Spiders. GWU breaks a 51 yard return and will get the ball on Richmond's 47.

4th Quarter 2:06- The extra point is good and Richmond leads for the first time since the 1st quarter. This game is eerily similar to the NC State game with Richmond playing the role as the favorites.

4th Quarter 2:06- Roller is still down. I haven't seen a replay yet but the guys up here in the pressbox are saying it looks pretty bad.

4th Quarter 2:06- Roller makes a great touchdown catch in the corner of the endzone but suffered a gruesome injury when he landed. The game is 9-9 with an ensuing extra point.

4th Quarter 3:04- Barnette makes a great catch on the 3 on a trick pass play from Savage. Montell White comes in at quarterback and gets nothing on his run. Richmond is called for holding and will have 1st and goal form the 13.

4th Quarter 6:03- Greene picks up two on a screen on 1st down and Roller makes a fantastic diving catch to pick up the 1st down. It looked like he couldn't hold on from where I'm sitting (and the Gardner-Webb fans agree) but the replays showed he held on.

4th Quarter 6:53- A couple of good defensive plays set up a 3rd and 9. On the 3rd down, Jacob Pierce got pressure on Beatty which led to an incomplete pass. GWU downs the punt at the 39.

4th Quarter 8:32- Strauss drops the low snap and gets hit as he recovered the ball. That play seems like a good snapshot of how Richmond's night has been on offense.

4th Quarter 8:37- Strauss' pass is broken up and the Spiders stall once again. Jordi's kick is short but GWU was offside. The Spiders are going for it on 4th and 4.

4th Quarter 9:08- Richmond faces a 3rd and 9 after an incomplete pass and a one yard run by Greene.

4th Quarter 9:26- Strauss finds a wide open Brown for a 25 yard catch. Richmond has the ball on the 25. Rocco uses Richmond's 2nd timeout of the half.

4th Quarter 10:45- Strauss finds Savage for a 1st down. Savage has been a much bigger factor this half than he was in the 1st half.

4th Quarter 11:28- Richmond will start on its 39 after a good return by Greene.

4th Quarter 11:45- GWU kicker Jordan Day hits the 29 yard field goal. 9-3 Bulldogs.

4th Quarter 12:20- Big stop on 3rd down by the Spiders. Keeping this game within one possession is huge for the Spiders.

4th Quarter 13:30- GWU picks up a big 3rd and 1 and has a 1st and 10 on the 17.

4th Quarter 14:45- GWU running back JJ Hubbard broke a 45 yard run, which brings the Bulldogs to Richmond's 27.

3rd Quarter 0:00- Whenever the Spiders seem to get some sort of momentum on offense, they just suddenly stall. Richmond is 2-10 on 3rd down conversions. Unlike the defense, the offense is not making plays when they need them.

3rd Quarter 0:07- Strauss finds Savage but he's brought down immediately and can't pick up the first down. GWU fields the punt and will take over from the 29.

3rd Quarter 0:30- Richmond has a 3rd and 5 after two carries from Greene.

3rd Quarter 1:45- Barnette pulls in a 10 yard reception to put him over 100 receiving yards for the game.

3rd Quarter 1:55- Reggie Barnette sacks Beatty on 3rd down. GWU's punt goes into the ednzone and UR will take over on the 20.

3rd Quarter 3:05- Richmond stuffs two runs and forces a 3rd and 8 on Richmond's 38.

3rd Quarter 3:45- Moon gets stuffed at the line and GWU takes over. The Bulldogs pick up consecutive 1st downs on the next two plays. GWU has all the momentum currently.

3rd Quarter 4:30- Gardner-Webb responds with its own timeout. Both teams realize how crucial this play is. Richmond hasn't put many drives together so far this game, but has looked good on this drive. The Spiders really need to get some points out of this drive.

3rd Quarter 4:30- Strauss fired a pass over Roller down the field on 3rd down. Richmond will go for it on 4th down. Strauss saw something he didn't like at the line and called a timeout.

3rd Quarter 4:40- TJ Moon picks up 6 on the ground. Richmond faces a 3rd and inches from GWU's 34.

3rd Quarter 5:20- GWU is called for pass interference, which was probably the right play to make if you are Gardner-Webb. Strauss had Brown open down the field.

3rd Quarter 6:15- A play-action pass to Seth Fisher picks up just enough for a 1st down.

3rd Quarter 7:30- Richmond forces GWU to punt. Neither offense has done much with its drives this half.

3rd Quarter 9:45- There are plenty of empty seats here at Spangler Stadium, but the crowd has been making some noise. As long as this game stays close, I expect the crowd will continue to gain energy.

3rd Quarter 9:52- Strauss' 3rd down pass is nearly intercepted. Richmond to punt.

3rd Quarter 11:05- Strauss finds Roller for a 13 yard completion. Shane Savage picks up 5 on a screen on the next play. That's Savage's first catch of the game.

3rd Quarter 11:43- Richmond and GWU exchange 3 and outs to open the 2nd half. Spider ball on its own 18.

Halftime- A few first half thoughts: I said in my preview that I expected a big game out of Jacobi Greene, and so far I could not have been more wrong. Greene has 10 yards on four carries, and those 10 yards came on one play. As a team, has an abysmal one net rushing yard. Richmond will need to find more success on the ground in the second half if it wants to put some points on the board. Richmond's defensive line played well in the first half and has kept Gardner-Webb QB Lucas Beatty under pressure. Gardner-Webb moved the ball pretty easily against our defensive at times, but several big plays have kept the Bulldogs out of the endzone.

Halftime- Welcome to The Collegian's coverage of Richmond Football. I was unable to live blog the first half because I could not get internet in the pressbox. Hopefully the wifi will stick around.
