The Richmond Spiders have hired Chris Cosh as their new defensive coordinator, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Cosh, a 56-year old with more than 30 years of coaching experience at the college level, brings an impressive resumé with him to Richmond. He has served as a defensive coordinator for seven schools during the past 20 seasons, including Maryland, South Carolina, Michigan State and Kansas State.
Cosh will replace Bob Trott, who left the Spiders on Jan. 23 to become the defensive coordinator at James Madison. Trott coached Richmond's defense during the team's 2015 run to the FCS semifinals.
Richmond also lost offensive coordinator Charlie Fisher to a head coaching job earlier in the offseason, but have since replaced him with John Garrett, brother of Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.
Although Cosh's resumé is impressive, he was most recently the defensive coordinator for a North Texas team that allowed 41 points per game to opponents.
He will inherit a strong, proven defense, though, one that Richmond coach Danny Rocco plans to keep the same as it was during 2015's impressive run.
"Chris' experiences give him the opportunity to come in here and take our defense – I'm not changing it – and advance it," Rocco told the Times-Dispatch.
