The University of Richmond placed the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority chapter on temporary suspension while the chapter is under investigation for an alleged violation or violations of the Standards of Student Conduct and UR’s Hazing Policy.
Meg Pevarski, the associate director of Greek life, wrote in an emailed statement confirming the chapter has ceased operations.
“On Thursday, January 30, 2020, the University of Richmond temporarily suspended all operations of the Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter pending the outcome of an investigation. The chapter will remain on temporary suspension until the investigation has been completed,” Pervarski wrote.
“It is standard practice of the University of Richmond to place organizations on temporary suspension, also known as ‘cease operations’ status, to allow for a thorough investigation.
“The timeframe for completing the investigation is unknown, the University will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation.
“All allegations made regarding a violation of University policy as outlined in the Standards of Student Conduct and the University’s Hazing Policy are taken seriously and addressed swiftly.”
The president of the Panhellenic Council, who requested not to be named, declined to comment. The president of the UR Kappa chapter, who requested not to be named, declined to comment.
The allegation comes after two mothers visited campus last week to give an anti-hazing talk to members of Greek life.
