E. Claiborne Robins Stadium is home to the UR Spiders.

The second annual University of Richmond Giving Day was a record-setting success for the athletic department. According to the Spider Club Office, athletics received five times more donations this year than UR Giving Day 2019.

Over the course of the 36-hour event, Athletics received a total of $512,678. Giving Day donations to athletics contributed to nearly one-third of the total $1.55 million given to UR.

Director of Athletics John Hardt said he appreciated the unwavering support of UR alumni, family, friends and fans, even more so this year because of the national and global crisis of COVID-19 that has financially affected many people.

“I am humbled by their commitment and generous support of the work we do providing our Spider student-athletes with opportunities and support to achieve, serve and lead at the highest levels." Hardt said. "On behalf of Spider Athletics, I thank you."

The team that raises the most money receives an extra $5,000 towards its program. Women’s lacrosse won for the second year in a row, raising $42,767. The women’s lacrosse team was ranked #10 in the nation by Inside Lacrosse in its premature season.

Allison Kwolek, head coach of women's lacrosse, expressed her gratitude for donors.

“To have so many families, alums, friends and fans all come together over 36 hours for the event was especially meaningful," Kwolek said. "We can't thank everyone enough for their generosity and wonderful support."

Men's basketball received the second most in donations this year with $35,115, which roughly doubles their last year's winning amount of $18,785.

Senior Jacob Gilyard expressed his thanks to the Spider family.

"It was great to see so many people step up to support our program even when so many in the Richmond area and around the country are going through a difficult time," Gilyard said. "We expect to have a great season this year, and it’s nice to know there are so many people who have our back going into it.”
