Happy Monday, Spiders! Fall break is this weekend, so whether you’re traveling somewhere exciting, heading home for rest and relaxation, or enjoying your break on-campus, make sure to spend some quality time away from studying. If you’re in the search for some fun activities for this week, look no further! Here are some can’t-miss events happening in and around campus. 

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival!

Join the Hub and the Asian Student Union on Monday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for a moonlit celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival: an annual holiday observed across East and Southeast Asia to honor the full moon harvest. Bring a blanket and some friends to enjoy mooncakes, choco-pies and tea under the stars on the Boatwright Library Hill! 

Peach Pit live at The National

Vancouver indie beach band Peach Pit is bringing their surf-rock sound to Richmond this week on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Grab your friends for a perfect mid-semester night downtown and listen to songs like “Shampoo Bottle” and “Alrighty Aphrodite”. Grab your tickets here!

Build a hoop house

The Office for Sustainability is hosting a garden demo on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Eco Corridor. Joseph Day, the Natural Areas Steward, will show how to build a hoop house, a structure that helps extend your growing season and protects herbs and vegetables from the fall frost! Register here

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride at the Byrd Theater 

It’s officially a spooky season, and the historic Byrd Theater in Cary Town is celebrating with a Tim Burton classic. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, you can follow Emily, played by Helena Bonham Carter, in this haunting stop-motion animated film. The tickets are $9 and available for purchase online here!

Intro to LEGO Serious Play 

Build ideas and learn how play can inspire innovation in this interactive session that explores collaborative creativity, communication and problem-solving. The Innovation Studio is hosting this creative, brick-building workshop on Friday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. in the Boatwright Library. You can learn more about this free event here
