Rival VCU and Butler joining A-10 immediately

The Atlantic 10, the University of Richmond's athletic conference for all sports except football, has added Virginia Commonwealth University and Butler University for the 2012-13 seasons. With these additions, the A-10 has 16 teams, though certain schools do not participate in certain sports.

When the Richmond Spiders men's basketball team played against conference foe Temple on Jan. 14, the story of the night shocked many fans in attendance. Just 10 days after upsetting Duke, Temple came to visit the Spiders in an Atlantic-10 battle that the Spiders needed to win to gain some momentum before heading into the bulk of their conference schedule.

PHILADELPHIA — Riding an eight-game road win streak, the Richmond Spiders were looking to avenge a loss to the Temple Owls during the 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference Final. Richmond lost 73-53 while giving up 15 points off of turnovers.

PHILADELPHIA — All senior point guard Kevin Anderson could do was watch. Temple junior guard Ramone Moore had stripped the ball from Anderson near midcourt and Anderson, slowly getting up from the floor after a failed attempt to regain the ball, got a clear view of Moore's one-handed dunk. It was that type of night for the University of Richmond, as it lost 73-53 Thursday night at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

His runner from in the lane was in-and-out and instead of only a one-point Temple lead, Richmond continued to trail 49-46. The Spiders ended up losing to the Owls 56-52 in Sunday afternoon's Atlantic 10 final in Atlantic City, N.J.
