My first encounter with “book banning” happened when I was still a high school student. At the time, Young Adult fiction books surged in popularity among people my age.
Michaelangelo Antonioni’s “Red Desert” (1964, released in Italian as “Deserto Rosso”) opens with the image of a factory obscured. Obscured by the opening credits, the camera’s unfocused lens, but especially by the trails of smoke it ceaselessly spits out (oozing from every orifice it can find room for).
