Philip's Continental Lounge, better known as Phil's among Richmond students, will be forced to relocate when its lease expires on June 30, 2011. Phil's restaurant and bar has been located at 5704 Grove Ave. in the Shops at Libbie & Grove for over 72 years. When Kyle Measell and his wife took ownership of Phil's eight years ago, they introduced Thursday night karaoke, which exploded in popularity among students. Measell said he would be sorry to make the move, but was thankful for the continued support from Richmond's student body.
Nine seniors were honored from the University of Richmond lacrosse team before its 12-6 victory Friday afternoon at Robins Stadium against Saint Joseph's University. The seniors have now tied their best start in Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 5-0 record, the same mark as their freshman year when they started conference play 5-0 before losing an overtime game to George Washington University.

George Saunders was born in Amarillo, Texas, in 1958 and was raised in Chicago. He originally thought he would join a rock band after high school, but two teachers influenced him to attend college. He graduated from Colorado School of Mines, a mineral engineering college, with a degree in Geophysical Engineering in 1981. He worked his first job in Sumatra, Indonesia as a field geophysicist and began writing stories during this time. He returned to the United States after two years, and held various jobs in Los Angeles, including slaughterhouse laborer, roofer, convenience store clerk and bar-band guitarist. He moved back to Texas, and was soon accepted into Syracuse University's Creative Writing Program. He met his wife, Paula, at Syracuse. Three weeks after he met her, he proposed, and they married in May 1987. In 1997, he accepted a teaching position in the Syracuse University creative writing program. He has been teaching there ever since, along with writing several works, including "The Braindead Megaphone," "CivilWarLand in Bad Decline," "In Persuasion Nation," and "The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip."
On April 2, 2011, 41,314 people lined up on Broad Street to start the 12th-annual 2011 Ukrop Monument Avenue 10K. The participants, some running and some walking, went on the 6.2-mile course that ended on Franklin Street. Julius Kogo, from Kenya, ran the fastest time at 29:02 and win the $2,000 prize for the fastest time.
