Storylines:
Things didn't look good for the Spiders. Senior John Laub had suffered a broken ankle in a game at University of New Hampshire, and to make matters worse, University of Richmond lost the game. The fourth-ranked James Madison University Dukes were scheduled to visit E. Claiborne Robins Stadium the following week.
Gardner-Webb kicker Jason Day made his fourth field goal of the game with 29 seconds remaining to lift the Runnin' Bulldogs over Richmond, 12-10. Richmond beat Gardner-Webb, 41-8, last season at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium.

Storylines:
While many students enjoyed a summer at home, more than 70 football players remained on a deserted University of Richmond campus--more than 40 of whom were lifting their way into the 1,000-pound club.
The score was the same, but the number next to Richmond on the final box score was reversed.
Student Activities introduced a student tailgating opportunity before the football game against Virginia Military Institute last Saturday that received mixed feedback from the university community.

Storylines:
The No. 14 ranked University of Richmond Spiders shutout the Virginia Military Institute Keydets, 34-0, in the season opener this past Saturday at Robins Stadium.
The Richmond Rowdies, a student organization that promotes varsity athletics and school spirit, is revamping its approach to get students more involved on game days.
This fall marks the first season that the football players on the current University of Richmond roster were not members of the national championship team, but the effects of the 2008 win are stronger now than they were five years ago.
