Final Score: University of Richmond- 21, College of William & Mary- 14 What Happened: For the second straight game, Richmond's defense bailed out a mistake by the Spiders' young quarterback, as the unit held strong late in the fourth quarter with William & Mary in the red-zone threatening to tie the game.

Spiders top century mark in blowout win, 101-58, over Seahawks

The University of Richmond men's basketball team took an early lead and never looked back, defeating University of North Carolina-Wilmington 101-58 in its second game of the season Tuesday. "I thought our pressure and intensity dictated tonight's game in our favor," coach Chris Mooney said. After a back-and-forth start with a brief tie, Richmond gained momentum.


Swimming & Diving

Swimming and diving focuses on "the process"

The University of Richmond's swimming and diving team members focus on "The Process," which enables success on the daily level. "The Process" is a phrase that head swimming coach Matt Barany uses with his team that the focus and energy of the swimmers to each day, instead of strictly focusing on the end of the season, Barany said. "In college athletics, people are obsessed with the end result, and a lot of teams don't do a good job in the middle," Barany said.

Richmond adopts sport club classification system

Members of the Sport Club Council for the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness adopted a classification system last year to provide financial resources more equitably to clubs at various levels of competition, participation and financial need. The number of sport clubs at the university has increased from 15 to about 34 during the last four years, said Seth Thomas, assistant director for sports.

Spiders survive comeback, edge out Blue Hens, 23-17

Delaware quarterback Trent Hurley's final throw into the end zone was caught by Richmond safety Cooper Taylor, spoiling the Blue Hens' fourth-quarter comeback attempt. Down 20-7 to begin the fourth quarter, Delaware fought back to give itself a chance, down just six points with two seconds remaining and the ball 27 yards from the end zone, but Taylor's interception, the Blue Hens' fifth turnover of the game, ended the game in Richmond's favor, 23-17. "We were never really able to put them away offensively," Richmond coach Danny Rocco said.

Final Score: University of Richmond- 23, University of Delaware- 17 What Happened: Richmond truly escaped with a victory today despite a sloppy second-half effort by the offense, which had trouble all game turning 1st and goal situations into touchdowns, even failing to get any points on two occasions.

Richmond overcomes slow start to defeat Lancers, 71-61

Richmond guard Kris King's jump shot at the end of the first half put the Spiders ahead for the first time; the team didn't trail for the rest of the game. The game started with a quick turnover by the Spiders, which foreshadowed the first half, as they had nine total during the period. Senior Rachael Bilney finished with the most points for the Spiders at 19, 13 of which came in the first half.

Spiders rout Flames, 84-42, in season opener

Richmond was ahead by 12 points before Liberty University scored its first points, and the Spiders just kept extending their lead the rest of the game. On opening night, Richmond was able to get all 14 players in its lineup into the game, routing the Flames, 84-42.

Women's Basketball Season Preview

Picked to finish second in the Atlantic-10 by a preseason coaches' poll, Richmond women's basketball looks to take the next big step under eighth-year head coach Michael Shafer. Getting to the WNIT tournament the past four seasons, this Spider lineup has the look of a NCAA tournament team. Richmond returns four starters -- Rachael Bilney, Keri Soppe, Liz Brown and Genevieve Okoro -- from last year's 23-9 campaign, a season that was successful despite numerous injuries.

Men's Basketball Season Preview

Two seasons removed from its improbable run to the Sweet 16, University of Richmond men's basketball may be more ready to return to national prominence than many pundits think, if a few pieces fall into place. With last season being a clear rebuilding year for the Spiders, they return three starters and several key reserves from their 16-17 campaign in 2011-12.
