The University of Richmond men’s club rugby team has qualified for the Collegiate Rugby Championship for the third consecutive season after winning its open regional qualifiers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The University of Richmond men’s basketball team recently added Jonathan Beagle to its roster. Beagle, who just finished his sophomore season at the University at Albany, announced his commitment to UR on April 7.
On a day where nothing seemed to work, the University of Richmond Spiders baseball team lost by a score of 17-5 against the Longwood University Lancers, falling to a record of 16-21 on the season.
In a short blip of time, King captured A-10 Conference Player of the Week honors on three separate occasions, he won A-10 Co-Player of the Year and he made the A-10 First Team All-Conference, as well as the A-10 All-Academic Team.
The University of Richmond baseball team went undefeated in a three-game series against George Washington University at Pitt Field from April 12 to April 14.
A dominant second half powered the University of Richmond women’s lacrosse team to a 16-7 win over the George Washington University on April 13.
The University of Richmond women’s lacrosse team fell short of a statement win against 12th-ranked James Madison University in an 18-12 loss April 3.
“It’s good, we won the series,” UR Head Coach Mik Aoki said in a postgame interview. “The first A-10 weekend of the year. It’s always kind of tough to lose on Sundays because it gives a little bitter taste at the end of the weekend, but when it’s all said and done, we won two out of three.”
The Spiders cruised to a 17-9 win over St. Bonaventure University on March 30 to stay first-ranked in the A-10 conference.
“I could not have been prouder,” UR Head Coach Aaron Roussell said in a postgame press conference. “Everything you ask your players to do at the end of a season of playing their best basketball, playing their hardest, playing together– they were just so fun to coach here for these last few weeks."
While things may have fizzled out a little sooner than expected when the Spiders lost to Virginia Tech 74-58 in the first round of the NIT on March 19, it was a record season for the Spiders and a notable turnaround from last season’s 15-18 finish.
The University of Richmond men’s lacrosse team lost 12-3 against Duke University at Robins Stadium on March 16, putting an end to their four-game winning streak.
After a heartbreaking 66-61 loss to Saint Joseph’s University in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on March 14 – a loss which squelched any chances of an NCAA Tournament bid – the University of Richmond men’s basketball was selected to play in the National Invitational Tournament.
If the University of Richmond men’s basketball team’s season couldn’t get any better, it now has three yearly Atlantic 10 awards to add to its trophy case of regular season accomplishments.
The University of Richmond women’s basketball team took down the University of Rhode Island 65-51 on March 10 in the Atlantic 10 Championship, securing an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. This is the Spiders’ first A-10 Championship in the history of the program.
In the second half, GMU’s scrappy and quick style of play caught up with the Spiders and ultimately proved to be too much to overcome, with the game ending in a 64-46 loss for UR.
The Spiders came out on top today, defeating Duquesne in the Atlantic 10 semifinals 80-66 to advance to the championship with a chance at securing an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The University of Richmond women’s basketball team picked up right where it left offensively in their matchup against Loyola University Chicago, picking up a 70-54 victory in the Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals on March 9.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams are A-10 regular season champions for the first time ever, giving both teams the number one seed in their respective upcoming conference tournaments.
