Gardner-Webb kicker Jason Day made his fourth field goal of the game with 29 seconds remaining to lift the Runnin' Bulldogs over Richmond, 12-10. Richmond beat Gardner-Webb, 41-8, last season at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium.

Richmond football's 2012 season ended in bittersweet fashion. The Spiders vastly improved from 2011 and earned a share of the conference title, yet the team failed to make the FCS postseason tournament. This year, the Spiders have their eyes set on another conference title and more. Here is a brief summary on what you need to know about Richmond Spiders football heading into the 2013 season:

Transfer junior quarterback Michael Rocco will not be eligible to play for the Spiders in the 2013 season, after leaving the University of Virginia this past semester.
University of Richmond's head football coach, Danny Rocco, received a contract extension through 2017, Athletic Director Keith Gill announced on Monday. 2012 was Rocco's first season at Richmond.
For the second consecutive spring semester, Richmond's football team is bringing in a transfer quarterback from the University of Virginia.
Coming into the 2012 season, expectations were not high for the University of Richmond football team. The Spiders ended the 2011 season on an eight-game losing streak and finished last in the Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA).
