Hit and Run
Right-handed pitcher Jacob Mayers threw a career-high 10 complete innings on Friday afternoon in Richmond's 2-1 walk-off victory over Xavier University. Mayers allowed just two hits and struck out 11 of the 36 batters he faced.
Despite losing 68-55 to the University of Virginia Cavaliers in the second round of the postseason WNIT tournament, Richmond's women's basketball team exceeded expectations this season. The team went 23-9, falling three games short of the school's 26-game win record.

The University of Richmond community will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day at 2 p.m. tomorrow with a campus-wide gathering at Camp Concert Hall.
4th Quarter, 0:00- The Spiders' season comes to an end, as Corp's Hail Mary pass falls to the ground. Tribe win, 25-23.
2nd Half, 0:00- Game and season come to a close for the Richmond Spiders. Final score: UR 0, Cuse 2.
4th Quarter, 0:00- The Monarchs elect to go for it, and DeMarco runs for it. They let the clock run out, and the final score is: ODU 42, UR 28.
4th Quarter, 0:00- The game comes to a close on a three-yard loss by Turner. UMass hands the Spiders their fifth straight loss, 28-7.
Shoplifting

4th Quarter, 0:00- The kick is up and good. Towson players and coaches rush onto the field to congratulate their kicker, as Richmond falls, 31-28.
Vandalism
SAN ANTONIO -- Junior Darrius Garrett (pictured) will be counted on by Chris Mooney to try to slow down the Morris twins from Kansas tomorrow.
DENVER — This was not supposed to be Richmond's match-up in the third round, but then again, Richmond wasn't supposed to make it this far either. Since both teams dispatched of their higher-seeded foe in the second round here in Denver, Colo., on Thursday, they will meet on Saturday at 5:15 p.m. EST to advance to the Sweet 16.
SAN ANTONIO —
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — University of Richmond senior Dan Geriot wanted a jumping chest bump from fellow senior Justin Harper after Harper's emphatic one-hand dunk with about eight minutes left in Friday's Atlantic 10 Conference quarterfinal game against the University of Rhode Island. But Harper, who rarely lets his emotion show on the court, instead went for more of a light, chest tap with Geriot.
