Sept. 29: Loss 63-10 vs. James Madison University
Richmond scored two touchdowns in the final minute to complete a dramatic comeback against Saint Francis. Redshirt junior quarterback Kevin Johnson completed a 65-yard drive with a pass to senior receiver Tyler Wilkins to cut the Saint Francis lead to 29-27 with only two seconds left on the clock. In the game’s final play, Saint Francis attempted to lateral the ball multiple times, which resulted in a fumble. Junior Spider defensive end Maurice Jackson recovered the ball and ran it 29 yards for the touchdown and the victory.
It was a split-second decision. Walking up to the security guards in Madison Square Garden, Lindsay Stevens put on her best impression of a flustered reporter who had lost her press credentials. Shortly after, she found herself cordially escorted into the Fashion Week show. She boldly walked on the red carpet and seized the moment to pose for a photo.
Richmond field hockey concluded its season Friday, beating Saint Louis 3-0 and officially winning the Atlantic 10 regular-season title. With an overall record of 11-8 and a conference record of 7-1, the Spiders will enter the A-10 tournament as the top seed.
She has won an A-10 Offensive Player of the Year award, represented her native Ireland in international play and even been nominated for an ESPY, but “living as a muggle” is what excites Rebecca Barry most about this coming offseason, her final one at University of Richmond.
Athlete of the week: field hockey's Kelley Wentling
The Spiders stormed the field and the crowd roared thunderously as Rebecca Barry scored the game’s lone goal in sudden-death overtime to beat Massachusetts in Saturday’s Atlantic-10 Championship matchup.
After being shut out by Duke on Saturday, the field hockey team bounced back and overpowered Davidson in Sunday’s regular season finale, led by a dominant effort by Rebecca Barry in her senior game.
The Bald Eagles scored their lone goal less than six minutes into the game, and managed to hold off the Richmond attack for the rest of the game. It was a tale of two halves for the Spiders, who looked a bit lackluster to start the game, but picked up their play significantly in the second half.
Although the University of Richmond's field hockey season has come to an end, seniors Anna Zarkoski and Chelsea Davies will play in an annual all-star game against the USA field hockey team.
Last Sunday on Senior Day, Richmond destroyed whatever hopes St. Joseph's had of making the Atlantic 10 tournament with a 5-0 shutout win.
The University of Richmond field hockey team quickly recovered after a slow start and scored four second-half goals en route to a 7-2 win over the La Salle University Explorers Friday.
