Fresh off another Sundance award, director Cutter Hodierne will bring his acclaimed film “Fishing Without Nets” to campus Monday to show students what Somalian piracy looks like through the eyes of the Somalis. Most University of Richmond students know that the Jepson Alumni Center exists, but what many students don’t know is that it houses a bed-and-breakfast. The Bottomley House has five bedrooms, each with a private bath, and offers accommodation to Richmond alumni, university guests and visitors attending events at the Alumni Center. Alumni, staff and faculty may also reserve rooms for friends and family, and parents of students enrolled at the university may reserve rooms as well.

Taylor Deitrick is a junior from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, with a major in leadership studies and a minor in history. She is a forward on the Richmond field hockey team, which recently won the A-10 Championship. Deitrick has been playing field hockey since sixth grade, and has similarly instilled a love of the sport in other children. For the past two years, she has coached the Richmond Panthers United Field Hockey Club team, and has coached in summer camps. Deitrick enjoys the culture of her team and having a chance to improve alongside the other players. A challenge for her this past season had been finding her flow and honing her skills. Deitrick wants Richmond students to know that student-athletes work extremely hard to balance their classes and sports. Student-athletes make the decision to do it because they love their sports; things are not handed to them. Something you don’t know about Deitrick? She sang in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome with her high school choir, and she also drives a manual car. Here’s a glimpse into a day in her life.

University of Richmond already has one rock star alumnus, Lumineers singer Wesley Schultz, but She's a Legend's Alex McDilda, Richmond College '14, and Camden Cantwell, RC '13, may not be far behind. The band's first album, "Flight Patterns and Fistfights," came out last month, and is available on iTunes, Spotify and the band's website.

Katy Norfleet currently serves as president of the Panhellenic Council. She is a senior from Wilton, Connecticut, with a major in healthcare and society and minor in biology. Norfleet wanted to serve as the Panhellenic president to start initiatives on campus that embody sisters helping sisters and women helping women. Last fall, Norfleet studied abroad in Khon Kaen, Thailand, where she organized a community beautification project to clean up villages. Over the summer, she went to Peru with the Richmond Global Health Alliance, which travels to regions with no access to healthcare or modern resources. Norfleet has been honored to work for the Greek community, and has felt fortunate to be a part of bringing an additional sorority to campus. Something you don’t know about her?
