I've heard tons of good reviews about the relatively new burger place in town called Burger Bach, and finally had a chance to try it this past weekend. Burger Bach (pronounced "batch") is a "New Zealand inspired gastronomical public house," aka nice burger joint right on the edge of Carytown. When we walked into the restaurant on Sunday night, it was very full but did not feel overwhelmingly packed and had a comfortable atmosphere. The space is not very big; it has a bar with seating, one long bar-height table that spans the length of the restaurant and is community type seating (meaning you will be seated right next to other parties) and booths lining the rest of the free wall space in the restaurant. It is not your typical layout; it almost promotes a sense of community.

Millie's Brunch is known to be the best in town, so I obviously had to find out for myself. The online reviews were amazing and tons of people suggested the Devil's Mess as the dish to order--but everything is amazing. My friends and I were en route to the restaurant when I called ahead to see how long the wait was. A lively British man answered the phone and said it would be about a 30-minute wait and said we should come down right away to have the best brunch of our lives.

I have heard a lot of good things about Selba, and it was on the top of my list for this season's Restaurant Week.

Family weekend is one of the best weekends of the year for all of us foodies. Parents from all parts of the country come to see their dear children they miss so much. And since they miss us so much they are willing to spend some dough. Family weekend is a great opportunity to try all of the restaurants in Richmond you have always wanted to try but cannot afford on a college budget. I made my family reservations at Pearl's Raw Bar Friday night.

Westhampton College Government Association President Taylor Michals spoke with University of Richmond Dining Services staff near the end of last semester to gauge whether late-night food trucks could become a reality on campus, she said. The idea came from an online survey Michals sent out to Westhampton College students during the summer, she said.

What do University of Richmond students do when their parents can't make it down for parents weekend? If you're Jennifer Fog, you invite one of your roommates from your study abroad time in Italy to come visit. Parents weekend is all about reunion, and after a year and a half of not seeing my friend, I didn't miss out on the experience. Our Saturday night dinner was ideally going to be at Havana 59, but after walking through crowds at Richmond's Italian Street Festival (ironic, right?) and making it to the door, we found out that our wait would be more than two hours. Hungry, and with a hankering for margaritas, we settled on Margaritas Cantina on N. 18th Street.

For those of you who like a good dive restaurant every now and then, Mom's Siam might be your kind of place. The waiters have tattoos, and the interior is cluttered with curio that looks like it's been picked up on long steamer-bound trips to Thailand.

Carytown prides itself on offering off-beat shops and eateries to satisfy those of us who aren't content with Chipotle or Panera Bread, and who are looking for something closer to campus. You've got CanCan Brasserie for French, Nacho Mama's for Mexican, Amici for fine Italian and a handful of great seafood, diner, brunch and American options to boot. Secco Wine Bar fits right in with Carytown's European restaurent feel with its variety of small dish offerings. Secco Wine Bar is operated by River City Cellars, the internationally stocked wine shop right next door, which allows Secco the luxurious wine list that pairs so perfectly with its dishes.

It is literally terrifying how easy it is to spend money without really buying anything at all. Say it's a beautiful Saturday morning, you have no plans to start your homework until Sunday night, and you feel so free with the whole day ahead of you that you want to take an adventure with your roommates.

I wouldn't say I'm the dimmest bulb in the box - I'm getting an education at a reputable college and managing to do well in my courses - but I think waitressing is one of the most difficult jobs in the world. I never expected it, but keeping each table on your mind and ensuring that everyone is constantly satisfied makes rocket science seem like a cinch.

So you might be wondering at this point if I ever eat at restaurants that don't deserve 4 out of 5 stars, but I stuck in the Ethiopian restaurant a few weeks ago to mix things up. When coming up with my ratings I try to base them on restaurants I know of the same caliber. For example, Tarrant's Cafe from my column a few weeks ago cannot be compared to Acacia Mid-Town even though they both received four out of five stars. In my mind, Tarrant's serves a completely different, more casual dining purpose whereas Acacia Mid-Town is more upscale and refined. However, both places deserved four out of five stars for their genre of restaurant.

Your car would not run very well on unclean fuel nor would it be able to get you where you need to go if the tank is on "E." I liken this scenario to the human body. It must be replenished with proper nourishment after it has been broken down due to physical activity. So why would you want to knowingly sabotage all of your well-intentioned efforts in the gym by not fueling up afterward? Perhaps he or she is uninformed or deliberately neglecting exercise regimes. I posit that it seems relatively easier to throw some dumbbells around in the gym but it takes a more concerted effort when paying attention to the proper fuel consumption and when to execute your meals. Those who think they can diet without exercising and those who think they can eat whatever they want because they exercise, are sadly misguided.

I know that "lodging" is a celebrated tradition here at the University of Richmond -- it is an unexplainable phenomenon that shows nothing if not the class, grace, integrity and general respect for personal space that every Richmonder possesses as a general condition of his/her being. Jokes.

Tarrant's Cafe is relatively off the beaten path for those who frequent the culinary mecca that is Cary Street and the Fan. However, well worth the trip down West Broad, Tarrant's offers upscale pub food in a warm and inviting environment. Tarrant's Cafe ended up being the perfect choice for a pre-movie dinner as its location is a few minutes from the Bowtie Cinema, and its extensive and varied menu also had plenty of options for my party, which included one gluten-free eater, one with a shellfish allergy and a vegetarian.
